Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is the gold standard of gum disease treatment. It is a non-surgical procedure in which Dr. West and our hygiene team use special tools to clean above and below the gum line, remove infected tissue and bacteria, and smooth the teeth’s roots to prevent the risk of reinfection. Scaling and root planing may be combined with antibiotics and is often carried out over the course of several appointments.
Soft Tissue Laser
State-of-the-art technology improves gum disease treatment in every way — like the soft tissue laser, which allows Dr. West to remove damaged or infected periodontal tissue with extreme precision. This type of treatment is often necessary for more severe cases of gum disease. Unlike traditional (i.e. surgical) methods of gum disease treatment, the soft tissue laser eliminates the need for a scalpel or sutures. And, because it sanitizes as it works, it actually promotes faster healing of the affected tissue as well.
